GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING OCTOBER 20,  2010

The General Membership meeting of the NYC Verrazano 10-13 Associaton was held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. The Board of Officers had previously announced that nominations for Board of Officers including President would be accepted by the Elections Committee.   A motion was made to have the Elections Committee be formed as per the By laws of the Association.   Vice President Anthony Franzese
the Chairman of the Election Committee indicated that two Board Members, Marie Zolfo, Secretary, and Frank Martarella, Treasurer, and two General Members Edward D. Reuss, and Frank Rapacciullo would comprise the Election Committee.   The Committee was informed that member Anthony De Natale,  a member in good standing,  was present at the meeting and was seeking the office of President. As per the By laws of the Association, all nominations for positions on the Board of Officers would be presented to the General Membership Meeting on November 17, 2010.
If nominees are unopposed, a voice count at the November 2010 meeting is sufficient for election to the Board.   If there is more than one nominee,  then a ballot will be distributed to the members for written votes, tabulated, and counted in the presence of the nominees.   A quorum for the election requires the presence of at least three (3) members of the Board of Officers, and at least 25 General Membership members in attendance at the meeting. The following is the Section XI of the By Laws relative to nominations and elections:

 “.  NOMINATIONS:
1.The Chairperson, Election Committee, will inform the general membership at the September meeting of the upcoming nominations and elections.
2.The Chairperson, Election Committee, shall inform the Corresponding Secretary to include in the September general membership meeting notice, that nominations to elective positions on the Board of Directors will be accepted during the month of October.
3.Nominations shall be received no later than the date of the October General membership meeting.
4.Nomination(s) may be made in person or, via US Mail, telephone, Email, facsimile transmission, or other acceptable means of communication during the month of October.
5.Nominations will be accepted from the floor at the October meeting.
6.All nominations will be submitted to the Chairperson of the Election Committee, and candidates will be announced during the regularly scheduled General Membership meeting in October.
7.A person whose name has been placed in nomination must, within seventy-two (72) hours, accept said nomination.  This may be done by contacting any Board member via telephone, facsimile transmission, certified mail, or other acceptable means of communication.  If no contact is received within the required time, said nomination will be considered “null and void.”

D. ELECTION DAY:
1.Elections will take place during the regularly scheduled General Membership meeting in November.
2.Nominations will be accepted from the floor.
3.Only members as defined in Article V (A 1 to 4 & D) may Vote.
4.Written ballots shall be required for any contested position.  All ballots will contain an Identification Number.
5.No Absentee Ballots.
6.A voice vote, by the majority of the members present, is the only requirement for uncontested positions.
7.The Chairperson and Election Committee are responsible for distributing, collecting, and tabulating the ballots.
8.A person running for elective office, or his/his designee, will be permitted to view and witness the ballot tabulating.
9.Persons elected will be announced by the Chairperson, Election Committee, at the November General Membership meeting.

E. ASSUME OFFICE:
Persons elected to office will assume their respective positions on January 1st following the election.

Anthony Perrone, newly installed President of the National 10-13 Organizations, Inc. addressed the members and indicated the need for the Chapters of the 10-13 to keep themselves informed on the issues that effect their members and their families.

The meeting was also addressed by Nicole Malliotakis, (R-C) Candidate for New York State 60th Assembly District.  She is running against incumbent Janele Hyer-Spencer, (D).

New member Bob Fisher was introduced and welcomed nto the Associaton.

The next General Membership meeting will be Wednesday, November 17, 2010.   Nominations and voting for positions on the Board of Officers will be conducted at the November meeting.
